Good Night Moon Illustration
The 1st grade students will watch the story Good Night Moon and then create their own illustration. First the students will create the room portion as a group and will go to a various centers to learn how to create the other elements from the story (mitten, cow jumping over the moon picture, etc...) on their own. Once they have drawn in the scene with pencil they will use crayon resist to color in the various parts before painting the rest of the room green as described and illustrated in the picture.
The 1st Grade students will: Create a Good Night Moon crayon resist illustration that uses the imagery from the story Good Night Moon.
1.Students will draw in the room with a window for their illustration as a class to start so that they have a starting point to work from. _____/5
2. Students will then draw in at least 5 additional objects/elements from the story at the various video-template stations around the art room. We will discuss how to draw each objects proportionally to the scene. _____/10 (2 points per station)
3. Students will use crayon to color in the objects/elements to add a crayon resist portion to their illustration._____/5
4. Students will paint in their room using green and the wet on wet water color technique. _____/5
Enrichment:
Students may draw in 5 or 6 objects/elements from the story at the various stations around the art room.
Remediation:
Students may draw in 2 or 3 additional objects depending on their ability level. This will be assessed during the portion of the lesson where we draw the room and window portion.
Differentiation:
Students who need maximum assistance will be able to use the templates provided for each station to aid in illustrating the elements from the book they wish to re-create.

I can explain how the objects in my picture are broken down to basic parts.
I can illustrate where the approximate sizes of objects when I draw them.
I can work with Mr.Kacur on placing my illustration evenly on black mount board.
