Northern Lights Chalk/Pastel Picture
The third grade students watched a short video about the northern and southern lights and created a picture which had colors based on either oxygen atoms or nitrogen atoms which occur as a result of solar flares.
Enrichment:
Students who would like to try and make a picture of THEIR picture on the wall in the background of
their picture will receive extra credit.

Students who are having difficulty will be given extended time or will be excused from the the background portion of the project.

1. Draw in S shapes with pencil to use as a guide to add 4 colors as demonstrated in video. 2 Warm and 1 Cool or 2 Cool and 1 Warm and white. ______/15.
2. Add vertically horizontal lights across the page between the bottom and middle of paper min a bright color. ____/5
3. Add stars in sky with white, yellow, and or light blue chalk. ____/5
4. Add black LAST at the bootom of the paper and trees that are in front of the horizontal bright line to show contrast of trees. ___/5
