Vincent Van Gogh Sunflowers
The first grade students watched a short art history video about artist Vincent Van Gogh. Students then recreated the sunflower picture in their own way drawing it first, adding crayon resist and then, painting in with watercolor.
The 1st Grade students learned about the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his sunflower paintings. Students followed the drawing steps below to create a counter drawing of the sunflowers first. They then painted in the sunflowers, stems, vase, background and table. When the painting dried they outlined with marker to make their pictures POP! Enjoy!

to create a contour drawing of the vase, stems, and table in. _____/5
3. The student has painted the flowers yellow and orange, the stems green and the
vase a color of their own choice. _____/5
4. Craftsmanship, once dry, the student traces the outline of their sunflowers, stems, vase,
and background elements as demonstrated in class and supported by the video tutorials. _____/5
5. The picture is mounted so that the mounting paper/board is even around the outside
edge and a name tag is filled out with first and last name and includes the students teacher
on the name tag paper provided. _____/5
