Spring Landscape Picture
The 1st grade students learned about artist Andrew Wyeth and landscape painting. They first learned about foreground, mid-ground, and background and then roughed in (drew) in the landscape using oil pastel. We talked about how things are blurry in pictures the further off in the distance they are (atmospheric distortion), and then we used the wet on wet watercolor technique (wet paint on wet paper) to paint in their scene. We also learned how to add texture using paper towel and table salt.
Materials: Paper and pencil. Optional Materials: Crayons and ruler.
