9 x 12” painting paper, colored pencil, brushes, watercolor paint, water buckets, Jim Dine 4 heart Power point procedure:
Day One
1) Discuss “Four Heart” by Jim Dine. Show power point of Jim Dine examples. Discuss shape and size of hearts. Are they the same or different? Discuss that Jim Dine is an Ohio artist. Discuss teacher created example.
2)Distribute painting paper
3) Have students fold the paper into fourths.
4) Demo how to draw a heart using the “m” and “v” method. Discuss that all 4 hearts should be the same size.
5) Students draw 4 hearts.
6) Demo coloring the hearts. Use patterns and decorations – perhaps, stripes, dots or swirly lines to color. Color entire heart, leaving no white. Do not color background. Use only warm colors – red, yellow and orange.
7) Students color hearts.
Day Two
1) Review Jim Dine artwork
2) Distribute artwork from last week.
3) Demo painting the background with watercolor paint. Paint each rectangle background with cool colors. Do not paint the heart. Use blue, green and purple.
4) Students create artwork.
5) Review as needed.
