Warm and Cool Color Pastel Drawings
The 2nd grade students learned about Crayola crayon artist Don Marco and the foreground, mid-ground, and background. We then talked about warm and cool colors and students then created their own picture using pastel crayons. Enjoy!
Assessment:
1. Students will draw their scene in using the tutorial below to create depth in the picture. ____/5
They will first draw a horizon. and additional horizon line.
2. Students will draw in a sun and cloud and add rounded sunbeam lines which will be colored in later.

3. Students will draw in tulips, daffodils, or sunflower shaped flowers as demonstrated in class. Flowers
will start off large and get smaller as they get closer to the horizon line to create a sense of perspective. _____/5
4. Craftsmanship, students will make their areas separated through use of clean boarder lines and
neatly color filled areas _____/5
5. Students will color in the top half of the picture using warm colors. Students will color in the
bottom half of the picture using cool colors. ____/5

Remediation:
Students will create their scene with only the sky half and ground half of the scene without flowers.
Enrichment:
Students will add additional background detail like birds or a hot air balloon. ______/4
