The second grade students heard Javaka Steptoe's children's book Radiant Child, the story of artist Jean-Michael Basquiat's life and artwork. Student's then used a traditional watercolor painting technique or a watercolor marker technique to colorize their picture.

Assessment:
1-Students will use imagery as demonstrated in class and any other imagery from their lives to include in their JMB picture. ___/5
2-Students will use patterns of words that have meaning to them throughout their picture to ad a literary element.___/5
3-Students will learn about contrast and how it is used throughout their picture.
4-Students will use either the watercolor marker technique or watercolor paint and both the wet-on-wet painting method and wet-on-dry method to complete the thecolorization of their picture. ___/5
5-Craftsmanship will be evaluated on the students ability to reproduce the techniques mentioned above in the manner in which they were demonstrated. ___/5
