The Great Wave Project
The Great Wave Off Kanagawa by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai
First grade students made their own version of Katsushika Hokusai's famous woodblock print The Great Wave using warm and cool colors for either their wave designs or their sky. Patterns could consist of letters, numbers, or shapes. Students then went over them with various Sharpie markers, added crayon to the sky to create areas of resist and then painted in the sky using a wet on wet method. Enjoy!
